ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Oct. 21) — Lindsey Bensch captured the individual title and Central Oklahoma capped a pefect fall campaign by taking the team championship at the Lindenwood Fall Invitational here Tuesday.
The Bronchos had all five players in the top 10 and shot a closing 298 in finishing with a 602 total in the two-day, 36-hole event. Augustana was 12 shots back in second at 614 and Concordia-St. Paul was third at 639 in the 13-team tourney.
It gave UCO a sweep of all five fall events and was the 11th win in the last 17 tournaments for the Bronchos of head coach Michael Bond.
"We came out focused and ready to play today," Bond said. "Everybody played pretty well and it was great to finish off the fall on a good note. We’ve got a lot of depth on this team and just need to keep working hard at getting better."
Bensch closed with a one-over-par 72 to finish with a 147 total and won medalist honors by two shots in earning her secnod win of the fall. June Tigert added a 73, while Marla Souvannasing shot 76, Bethany Darrough 77 and Daniela Martinez 78.
Tigert tied for second at 149, while Souvannasing was fourth at 151, Darrough eighth at 155 and Martinez tied for ninth at 156.
Bensch has been named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
It was the final fall event for UCO, which swept all five tournaments and had the individual champion each time. Katie Bensch, Daniela Martinez and Marla Souvannasing won titles in addition to Lindsey Bensch’s two.
