Ridgedale, Mo. – Branson Creek, the Tom Fazio designed golf course that launched Branson as a golf destination, was purchased by Bass Pro owner Johnny Morris and added to the amenities of Big Cedar Lodge, which he also owns and operates.
Last week Morris purchased Murder Rock Golf Course and surrounding land from Branson Creek Development. Murder Rock and its clubhouse is perched on a hill above Branson Creek, which itself has a good deal of elevation change.
A statement released by the communications department at Bass Pro said Branson Creek would reopen in the spring and be operated "for the benefit of the resort guests and the community . . . The golf course will be closed immediately for upgrades and renovations over the winter months, when the course would normally be closed.
"We are proud to have acquired Branson Creek Golf Course, rated the #1 Public Golf Course in Missouri by Golf Magazine and look forward with great anticipation to reopening the course in the late spring. Additional announcements on the course will be made in the coming months. Big Cedar will immediately be accepting applications from the employees formerly employed by the Troon Golf Management Company. "
Murder Rock has also been closed and it is not expected to reopen until substantial renovations have been made. Fazio has been spotted in Branson and insiders expect he will be involved in the rebuilding of Murder Rock.
A Bass Pro release quoted Morris as saying "This beautiful property provides us with a blank canvas and we’re exploring plans for golf and other developments. We’re excited to create something really special there."
