Cameron’s Winston wins again, leads team to second in The Classic at The Colony

THE COLONY, Texas – Zander Winston fired off a 66 in the second day of The Classic at The Colony and won in a playoff hole to take his second individual tournament victory in the last week.  The Cameron senior helped keep the Aggies in second place on the team leaderboard with a 13-under 563 (284-279), three shots behind Incarnate Word.

Winston surged from seventh place on Monday and tied Western Texas College’s Elliott Fullalove with a 136 (70-66). The Aggie senior recorded nine birdies, which was third most in the ten team field, and carded a six-under in par-5 scoring at The Colony.

Daniel Nielsen finished in the top-5 after shooting a 71 and would card a 138; the CU sophomore has finished in the top six of five events entered this fall.

Justin Jang recorded his best finish of the fall with a tie for 16th place at 145 (74-71). Quinton Tews was steady in both rounds and shot a 147 (73-74), he was tied with Winston for the team high with nine birdies. Dario Gabriel recovered from an 83 on Monday, and he carded a 1-under 71, which was his career low at Cameron.

Devin Whipple was fielded as an individual for the Aggies, and he picked up ten strokes to shoot a 70 on Tuesday, which as his second lowest round of the year.  

The tournament will conclude the fall season for the Aggies with three top-5 finishes and an average per round score at 299.
