Carson, Hannah win qualifier for U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship

Former University of Tulsa golfer Tyler Carson and former Oral Roberts golfer Austin Hannah, both members of The Oaks Country Club in Tulsa, paired up to win a qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, shooting a 64 Monday at Timarron Country Club in Southlake, Texas.

The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship is May 27-31 at Pinehurst Resort and will be held on the fabled Pinehurst No. 2 course.

Carson, 35, birdied five holes and Hannah, 30, added a pair of birdies as the duo shot 7-under on the par-71 course. Hannah is the two-time defending Oklahoma Golf Association Mid-Amateur champion and the current club champion at The Oaks, as well winner of a host of city championships.

Carson said the duo came off the course after the morning round feeling they had left a couple of birdies for the taking, but were surprised to find they led the morning wave of the 70 total teams entered. They had to hang out for five plus hours waiting to see if they were in a playoff and didn’t get back to Tulsa to near midnight.

“A long exhausting day but well worth it,” Carson said. “Neither of us have ever been to Pinehurst and we’re really excited. There will be 125 teams, but we’re confident we can give it a shot.”
