CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team carded a 23-under total of 553 on Monday during the opening day of play at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic to build a 17-shot lead at San Diego Country Club.
The No. 1-ranked Cowboys fired an 18-under 270 during their opening round to hold a 13-shot lead heading into the afternoon round. OSU followed with a 5-under 283 at the par-72, 7,033-yard layout to widen the margin. San Diego State finished the day in second at 570, while North Carolina and Texas Tech shared third place at 572.
Tech’s Fredrik Nilehn carded rounds of 69 and 66 for a 9-under total of 135, putting him one shot clear of the field.
A pair of Cowboys finished the day in the top five, with junior Zach Bauchou coming in tied for third place and freshman Matthew Wolff finishing the day tied for fifth place.
Bauchou carded rounds of 65 and 72 to stand at 7-under 137, while Wolff posted scores of 66 and 72 for a 138 tally.
Sophomore Viktor Hovland joined his Cowboy teammates in the top 10, finishing the day tied for seventh place at 139 with scores of 69 and 70.
Freshman Austin Eckroat’s rounds of 75 and 69 tied him for 22nd place at 144, while senior Kristoffer Ventura came in tied for 28th place at 145 with rounds of 70 and 75.
