STILLWATER,Okla. –Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team has signed three players to National Letters of Intent it was announced by head coach Alan Bratton.
Oklahoma natives Nick Heinen and Hayden Wood as well as Wichita, Kansas product Sam Stevens all cast their lot with the Cowboys and will join the program next fall.
"We’re excited to add what we believe are the two best players in the state in Nick and Hayden. They are proven winners and have had orange in their blood for a long time. Sam Stevens is the top player in Kansas and has already won at the national level,” Bratton said.
“These three all come from golf families and understand what Cowboy Golf is about.They are already friends and should fit right in with a chance to contribute immediately"
Last spring at Karsten Creek, Heinen and Wood were instrumental in Edmond North High School capturing its ninth consecutive Oklahoma Class 6A team title.
Heinen posted scores of 74, 68 and 72 to tie for first place. He eventually lost in a playoff to finish as the event’s runner-up for the second year in a row. This past summer, he advanced to the match play bracket at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship where he won a pair of matches to advance to the round of 16.
An honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American in 2012, Wood finished fifth at last year’s state championship while helping Edmond North to its aforementioned title. The son of former OSU All-American Willie Wood, he won the Oklahoma Junior Boys Amateur title the past two years and captured the 2013 OGA Stroke Play Championship.
Stevens has a pair of Kansas Class 5A titles to his credit and was runner-up at the 2013 Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship. A product of Kapaun Mount Carmel, he won the Big “I” National Championship this past year with a 7-under 281 total and won the 2013 PGA Junior Series with a 3-under 213 score as well.
