HOUSTON, Texas – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team split a pair of matches on Saturday during the second day of action at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at Houston Oaks.
During the morning session, the Cowboys picked up a 3-2-1 victory over in-state rival Oklahoma. OSU followed with a 3-1-2 setback during its afternoon match with Kansas at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout.
Freshman Brian Stark led for the entirety of his match with Garett Reband on the way to a 2-and-1 win.
Sophomore Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen trailed by two early against Thomas Johnson before winning four consecutive holes to flip his match en route to a 4-and-3 triumph.
Austin Eckroat rolled past Quade Cummins for OSU’s third victory. With the match tied at the halfway point, Eckroat reeled off wins on four consecutive holes before eventually finishing off a 5-and-3 win.
Freshman Rayhan Thomas tied his match with Blake Lorenz.
Senior Ferdinand Müller and sophomore Aman Gupta each suffered 2-and-1 defeats, falling to Patrick Welch and Logan McAllister, respectively.
Against the Jayhawks, Eckroat produced the lone victory for the Cowboys, knocking off Jeff Doty, 3 and 1. The match was tied through 11 holes before Eckroat took his first lead at the 12th. He also won the 14th and 17th to pull away.
Gupta and Thomas each tied their matches with Andy Spencer and Drew Shepherd, respectively.
Neergaard-Petersen fell to Ben Sigel, 6 and 5, while Stark suffered a 3-and-2 loss to Harry Hillier. Freshman Hazen Newman lost, 5 and 3, to Luke Kluver.
The Cowboys will wrap up pool play tomorrow morning with a tilt against Kansas State with their afternoon matchup to be determined. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Through three matches, OU is 0–0-3 record at the event. OU received a bye for the afternoon session.
OU will wrap up pool play on Sunday against Baylor at 8 a.m. CT. The Sooners will then play their final match after the conclusion of pool play.
