PALM CITY, Fla. — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team finished the first day of action at the Valspar Collegiate on Monday in sixth place at the Floridian Golf Club.
The Cowboys concluded the 36-hole day at 9-over 577 and three shots behind UCLA at the par 71, 7,076-yard layout. OSU opened with a 290 during its morning round before posting a 287 during afternoon play to get to its total.
LSU tallied a 15-under 553 to lead Florida State by one shot heading into tomorrow’s final round.
Texas A&M’s Greg Yates used back-to-back 67s to lead the individual race with his 134 total.
Junior Jordan Niebrugge followed an opening 73 with a 69 to get in at 142 and tied for 17th place to lead the Cowboy starting five.
Sophomore Zachary Olsen shaved three shots off his opening 73 during his second round and moved into a tie for 21st at 143 with his 70.
Redshirt freshman Brendon Jelley signed for a 70 during his first round before posting a 75 to stand at 145 and tied for 28th place.
Freshman Kristoffer Ventura carded rounds of 74 and 73 to finish the day tied for 36th place at 147, while sophomore Wyndham Clark tallied a 156 total with rounds of 77 and 79 to come in tied for 66th place.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 8:48 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with South Florida and UCLA.
Three OSU players are also in action this week at the UCO Broncho Invitational at Gaillardia Country Club. Senior Tanner Kesterson leads the tournament after shooting 66-66.
