Cowboys rebound to claim second in NIT in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. –Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team posted its second consecutive runner-up finish on Sunday, tying SMU for second place at the National Invitational Tournament at Tucson National.
The Cowboys carded the low round of the day, a 12-under 276, to move up from fifth place at the par-72, 7,200-yard layout. OSU finished at 18-under 846 and tied with SMU for the second spot. California took top honors, closing with a 282 to finish at 33-under 831.
Cal’s Joel Stalter fired a closing 66 to finish three shots clear of the field at 11-under 205.
OSU’s Wyndham Clark was one of three players to share second place, firing a 68 during his final round to finish at 8-under 208. For the redshirt freshman, the finish was his second consecutive runner-up showing and marked the seventh consecutive event he has finished in the top six.
Joining Clark in the top 10 were senior Talor Gooch and freshman Zachary Olsen. Gooch posted a 70 during his third round to tie for eighth place at 211, while Olsen closed with a 69 to finish at 212 and tied for 10th place.
Sophomore Jordan Niebrugge carded his low round of the event, signing for a 69 to get in with a 216 score and tie for 28th place.
Senior Ian Davis’ 72 on Sunday gave him a 220 total and tied him for 46th place.
Senior Kevin Dougherty competed individually and tied for 39th place at 218 after finishing with a 69.
The Cowboys will resume action on March 24 when they begin play at The Floridian Invitational in Palm City, Fla.
