Cowboys sixth in Valspar Collegiate, Jelley notches top-20 finish

PALM CITY, Fla.– Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Valspar Collegiate after carding a 3-under 281 during its third round on Tuesday at the Floridian Golf Club.
 
The Cowboys posted a 6-over total of 858 at the par-71, 7,076-yard layout to finish two strokes behind Texas A&M. Florida State carded a 281 during its third round to finish at 17-under 835 and five shots clear of the field.
 
Texas A&M’s Greg Yates carded his third 67 in a row to finish at 12-under 201 and earn a three-shot victory.
 
OSU’s Jordan Niebrugge posted his second consecutive 69 to move up six spots into a tie for 11th place. The junior finished at 2-under 211.
 
Redshirt freshman Brendon Jelley fired the squad’s low round of the day, signing for a 68 to move into a tie for 20th place at 213.
 
Sophomore Zachary Olsen’s 73 on Tuesday tied him for 27th place at 216.
 
Freshman Kristoffer Ventura carded his low round of the event, finishing with a 71 to tie for 32nd place at 218, while sophomore Wyndham Clark finished in 72nd place at 237 after closing with an 81.
 
The Cowboys will be back in action on April 4 when they begin play at the Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
 
Three OSU players are competing individually this week at the UCO Broncho Invitational at Gaillardia Country Club as well.
 
Redshirt freshman Stratton Nolen carded a 76 during his second round to climb into a tie for 10th place at 5-over 149. Senior Tanner Kesterson dipped into a tie for 15th place at 150 after signing for an 84, while freshman Sam Stevens finished the day tied for 63rd at 161 after carding an 80 during his second round.
