Cowboys slip into tie for fourth at Fighting Illini Invite

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team carded a 287 during its second round on Saturday at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational to stand in a tie for fourth place at Olympia Fields Country Club.

The top-ranked Cowboys began the day in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard with Alabama and Baylor at the par-70, 7,300-yard layout. OSU’s 7-over tally during its second round dropped the Cowboys into a tie for fourth place with Illinois at 7-over 567. Alabama carded its second consecutive 280 to stand at even-par 560 and hold a three-shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.

Alabama’s Davis Riley used a 67 on Saturday to move into the top spot in the individual race at 7-under 133.

Through 36 holes, a pair of Cowboys are in the top 10 with junior Zach Bauchou standing in a tie for fifth place at 137, while freshman Matthew Wolff is two strokes back and tied for eighth place at 1-under 139.

Bauchou followed an opening 64 with a 73, while Wolff carded an even-par 70 after opening with a 69.

Senior Kristoffer Ventura finished the day tied for 37th place at 146 after posting a 72 on Saturday, while classmate Brendon Jelley also carded a 72 to stand at 146 and tied for 37th.

Junior Hayden Wood signed for a 77 to come in with a 150 total and tied for 53rd place.

The Cowboys will get their final round underway at 7:45 a.m. (CST) tomorrow and will be grouped with Illinois and Florida State. Live scoring is available at
