Cowgirls advance to knockout round, must reach top eight today

EUGENE, Oregon – The Oklahoma State women’s golf team advanced to the knockout phase of the NCAA Championship after posting a 9-over 297 in the third round at Eugene Country Club.

After Sunday’s round, the field of 24 teams was whittled down to 15. The No. 8 Cowgirls survived the cut, and are tied for 10th place at 12-over 876. No. 2 UCLA leads the field at 4-under 860.

The remaining 15 teams will play 18 holes of stroke play competition on Monday, which will air on the Golf Channel from 6-9 p.m. Central. After that round, the NCAA individual champion will be crowned and the top eight teams will advance to the match play portion of the event to determine the team champion.

OSU has now carded rounds of 284-295-297 to mark just the third time in school history OSU has shot sub-300 in each of its first three rounds at the NCAA Championship.

Emma Broze posted the biggest highlight of the day for the Cowgirls. The sophomore aced the par-3 11th, which is the first hole-in-one in competition by the Cowgirls this season. Broze shot 79 for the day and is 14-over for the tournament.

Linnea Johansson is the lone Cowgirl under par overall. The junior has shot 1-under 71 in each of the last two rounds, and is 1-under for the tournament in a tie for 12th place.

Kenzie Neisen and Chih-Min Chen shot 74 and 73, respectively, on Sunday, and are now tied for 45th place at 4-over 220.

Maddie McCrary is tied for 70th place after carding a 79 on Sunday. The sophomore is 6-over for the week.
