SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The sting of this one will take a while to get over. Desperate to play in front of their fans on their home course in the national championship, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls came up one shot short in regional play, tying for seventh when the top six teams advance to Karsten Creek for the NCAA Championship.

One Cowgirl will be able to play. Emma Broze won a playoff against Laura Kowohl of North Carolina State and will move on to represent OSU at the NCAA Championships.

Broze finished her final 18 holes at even par-72 and in a tie for eighth place, but then took down Kowohl on the first playoff hole to clinch the NCAA berth. Broze will become the eighth Cowgirl to play in the NCAA Championship as an individual and the first since Kelsey Vines in 2012.

As a team, the Cowgirls shot a final round of 2-over par 290 to finish in a tie for seventh. OSU missed the cutline for the NCAA Championships by a single stroke.

The low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams at each of the four NCAA Regional sites (for a total of 24 teams and 12 individuals) advanced to the NCAA Championships, which are being hosted by OSU from May 18-23 at Karsten Creek, the home of Oklahoma State golf.

Pacing the Cowgirls on Wednesday was freshman Stephanie Astrup who tied her career low round with a 2-under par 70. She carded four birdies and tied for 33rd place.

Junior Chih-Min Chen and senior Alexis Sadeghy both carded 2-over par in their final round. Chih-Min Chen finished tied for 56th place, while Sadeghy finished tied for 63rd place.

Senior Cowgirl Kenzie Neisen scored 3-over par on the last day and finished tied with teammate Astrup at 33rd place on the leaderboard.

The NCAA Championships will begin on May 18 in Stillwater.
