Cowgirls drain 36 birdies, hold slim lead in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The Oklahoma State women’s golf team wrapped up an impressive 36-hole day and will enter Tuesday’s final round atop the leaderboard at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.

The No. 24 Cowgirls carded rounds of 291-284 – 575 (-1) and will enter Tuesday’s final 18 holes with a one stroke lead over No. 14 Arizona. This would mark the second straight win at the event for OSU.

Cowgirl freshman Stephanie Astrup had a stellar performance in the first round, going 1-under 71 in her debut. That is the best career start by a Cowgirl freshman since Pernilla Lindberg scored a 1-under 71 at the Mason Rudolph Championship back on Sept. 23, 2005.

After winning the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in 2016, Oklahoma State posted a staggering 36 birdies through 36 holes Monday, which is 11 more birdies than OSU put up in all three rounds last year.

Cowgirl senior Kenzie Neisen accounted for five of those birdies in the second round. She went on stretch of 15 holes with either a birdie or par, and closed the round at 4-under 68 and in a tie for 3rd place.

Maddie McCrary finished 72-71 and is tied for eighth place, while Astrup finished at even par and will enter the final 18 holes tied for 14th place.

Cowgirl senior Emma Broze carded an even par in her second round and will start Tuesday tied for 40th place, while fellow senior Alexis Sadeghy carded a 75-73 and will enter the final 18 holes tied for 47th place.
