ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – Freshman Chih-Min Chen and sophomore Kenzie Neisen both finished 1-under par to help the No. 9 ranked Oklahoma State women’s golf team top five other squads in the Golfweek Preseason Top 25 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.

The Cowgirls shot finished the event 3-over (879) after carding a 294 during their third round at the University of New Mexico’s Championship Course, which tied them with Big 12 rival Iowa State for fourth overall.

While No. 1 Stanford took home top honors with a score of 20-under (856), the Cowgirls topped No. 18 Pepperdine (+25), No. 19 Oregon (+5), No. 21 Ohio State (+20), No. 22 UC Davis (+22) and No. 25 San Diego State (+17).

Chen, who arrived at OSU with a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 62, carded 1-under 72s in each of her last two rounds. Those marks tied her with last year’s Big 12 individual champion, Neisen, for 18th place after the sophomore overcame four bogies in the opening eight holes to finish at even par on Tuesday.

Linnea Johansson entered Tuesday 1-under par, but a three bogies on the tournament’s final five holes dropped the junior into a tie for 26th place at 1-over.

Maddie McCrary (T50) and Alexis Sadeghy (T54) finished 9-over and 10-over, respectively.

The week’s scores marked a vast improvement over OSU’s sixth place finish at the McGuire Invite last fall. The team improved by eight strokes from the last time they played this course in 2014, while Neisen dropped nine strokes off her scorecard, Linnea Johansson took off two strokes and Alexis Sadeghy shaved off 12 strokes.

The Cowgirls will return to action this weekend at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. Opening rounds at Belmar Country Club are slated for Saturday morning.
