SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Oklahoma State women’s golf team is just one stroke off the lead, while Cowgirls Emma Broze and Kenzie Neisen are tied for third after the opening round of the Big 12 Championship.

The No. 9 Cowgirls shot an even par 288, which is Oklahoma State’s lowest ever round at a Big 12 Championship. All five OSU golfers are inside the top 20 heading into Saturday’s second round.

No. 17 Iowa State holds a one-stroke lead over OSU, while K-State’s Madison Talley leads all individuals after shooting a 3-under 69.

Including Neisen and Broze, only seven players carded rounds under par on Friday at the challenging Dominion Country Club. Neisen, the defending Big 12 individual champion, recorded birdies on three of the final seven holes to finish 1-under, 71.

Broze has top-10 finishes in each of her last two outings, and looks to keep that streak alive with stellar play on par-4 holes. The sophomore was a tournament-best three under on the course’s 10 par-4 holes, which was good for a 1-under 71.

Linnea Johansson fired an even par 72 in her opening round thanks to a birdie on 17. Just like Broze, Johansson also has top 10 finishes in her last two outings.
Sophomore Maddie McCrary and freshman Chih-Min Chen are both tied for 19th after shooting 2-over 74.

Oklahoma State has won eight Big 12 titles, which is twice as many as any other school and more than all the current Big 12 programs combined. The Cowgirls will continue their quest for title No. 9 on Saturday morning.

The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team finished the opening round of the 2016 Big 12 Championships in ninth place. The Sooners logged a 302 (+14) in the round.

Ana Ruiz led the way for the Sooners with a 73 in Friday’s round. The sophomore sat at even par before recording her only bogey of the day on the final hole. Ruiz shares 13th place out of 45 competitors.

Sophomore Rylee Pedigo carded a 75 (+3) in the opening round and is tied for 27th place.

Freshman Julienne Soo and sophomores Valerie Tanguay and Hannah Wood each shot a 77 (+5) in the first round and share 37th place.

The Sooners will tee off for the second round of the Big 12 Championship at 8 a.m. CT Saturday. Live results can be found at GolfStat.com.
