Dowell, Benn capture stroke play medals in OGA Junior Championship

Jaxon Dowell and Brooklyn Benn captured the stroke play titles of the Oklahoma Junior Boys & Girls Championship sponsored by Taylor Moore Tuesday at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.

Dowell, of Edmond, fired a second consecutive 6-under 64 to finish seven shots ahead of William McDonald of Oklahoma City, who shot 67-68. First-round co-leader Andrew Goodman of Norman followed his 64 with a 72 to drop into a third-place tie with Tres Hill of Elk City (68-68).

Benn, of Edmond, shot matching rounds of 72 to edge Maddi Kamas of Kingfisher (74-73) by three shots. Raychel Nelke of Pocolo was third at 153 (76-77), one shot ahead of Reagan Chaney of Ardmore (73-81). Jenni Roller of Jenks was fifth at 155 (75-80).

Match play begins in three divisions Wednesday, Boys 14-15, Boys 16-17 and Girls, with the top 16 in each bracket qualifying Brackets can be found at www.okgolf.org. The semifinals and finals will be held Thursday.
