Austin Eckroat of Edmond shot a 1-under round of 70 but it wasn’t enough to overcome a three-shot deficit and he finished second by a single shot to Isaiah Salinda in the Pacific Coast Amateur at The Olympic Club.

Eckroat, a rising sophomore at Oklahoma State, will now go on to play in the Western Amateur before competing in the U.S. Amateur. He was informed this week that his spot in the U.S. Amateur was assured, making him the fifth OSU player to earn a spot.

Hayden Wood, who won the U.S. Amateur qualifier at Oak Tree National, will also move on to the Western Amateur July 30-Aug. 4 at Sunset Hills Country Club in Northfield, Ill. Wood shot a final round of 74 and tied for 16th in the Pacific Coast Amateur.

Salinda took a three-shot lead after shooting a tournament low 62 on Thursday. He shot 72 Friday, including a bogey on the final hole that allowed Eckroat to pull within one shot with a par at the last hole. Eckroat finished at 11-under 273 after rounds of 65-67-71-70.

Brad Dalke of Norman and the University of Oklahoma shot an even-par 71 in the final round to finish at 6-over and tied for 44th.
