Casey Fernandez of Durant, a McAlester graduate who played for Southern Miss and has spent time on the PGA Latin America Tour, fired a 3-under 67 Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Charlie Saxon of Edmond into the final round of the Oklahoma Open at Oak Tree Country Club.

Saxon, a former Oklahoma Sooner who played for Cascia Hall in Tulsa and has traveled the world in various professional tours, carded a 68 Friday and is at 8-under 132. Both players shot 6-under 64 in the first round.

It could be a two-man race, as third place is four shots behind in Rafael Becker of Dallas, 4-under after a round of 70. At 3-under are Brendon Jelley of Tulsa (67-70), Derek Chang of Dallas (67-70) and Preston Stanley of Katy, Texas (71-66).

Windy conditions sent second-round scores soaring and all those 2-over or better made the cut for Saturday’s final round. Two-time champion Gil Morgan, competing at the age of 70, shot 74-74 to miss the cut.
