Hot Springs Village, Ark.- Hot Springs Village has been a golfer’s destination since its beginning. Situated in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, Hot Springs Village has an idyllic setting with sweeping vistas, lush forest, pristine lakes and some of the best golf courses in the region. Best of all, the resort is now aggressively promoting its stay & play options.
Here are five reasons to come play in Hot Springs Village.
With eight public golf courses and one private golf club course, the sheer number of courses sets this golf community apart. Hot Springs Village is home to seven 18-hole courses, one 27-hole complex as well as one 18-hole private golf course.
Each course is distinct with its own character, beauty and set of challenges. No two courses are similar and no two holes are the same. Both beginning golfers and seasoned veterans can find a course that suits their skill level and competitive spirit.
There is something to be said for each of them.
Ponce de Leon Golf Course is a favorite among lower handicap golfers with tree-lined fairways and consistently true greens. Magellan Golf Course plays a little shorter, but it has tricky greens which prove troublesome. DeSoto, the Village’s first course, is player-friendly and a good choice for family play.
Balboa Golf Course is one of the most challenging in the Village. If you like fast, well-maintained greens, this is it. Cortez is known as the shot maker’s course. With its elevation changes, every hole is different. Isabella is the 27-hole complex featuring three unique nine-hole loops – Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria.
Coronado Golf Course is walker-friendly and a perfect choice for a quick, three-hour round. Granada Golf Course is the newest 18-hole course, and is arguably the most scenic course in the Village. While its hilly terrain offers terrific views, it creates havoc on the course. There are no level lies here.
Diamante Golf Course is the only private course in the Village. It’s dubbed as one of the most challenging, yet flexible golf courses ever built. Diamante’s distinctive course design plays like six incredible golf courses in one.

Designed by Ault, Clark and Associates and Tom Clark, it is little wonder that Hot Springs Village golf courses are recognized for their superb design and exceptional play. Granada and Ponce de Leon are ranked in the state’s Top 10 by Golf Digest.
Both Golf Digest and Arkansas Business Journal consistently give Ponce de Leon high ranking. Ponce played host to the Nationwide Tour’s qualifying rounds for the Arkansas Classic from 2004 to 2008.
Golf Digest officially ranked Diamante as the No. 1 golf course in Arkansas from 1997 through 2000. Isabella held this coveted position from 2002 through 2006, and Balboa held the number seven position in 2005 and 2006.
While high rankings are important, what matters most to the average golfer is the condition of the course. Hot Springs Village’s reputation was built on golf and preserving the quality, condition and close management of the courses remain a top priority.
Courses are meticulously maintained and frequently renovated. Superintendents play a key role by keeping conditions at their finest with impeccable greens and bright white bunkers. The golf department and ad hoc committees work together to deliver a program that is fresh and current.
It takes a team of dedicated professionals to keep eight courses open seven days a week, year round.
Hot Springs Village may be known for its golf, but it’s the scenery that makes the biggest impression. The hilly terrain, majestic trees and overall natural beauty of the golf courses leave visitors awestruck.
All of the courses are picture-perfect, but Granada’s wow-factor is unforgettable. Its club house sits atop one of the highest elevation and has spectacular views in both front and back. A meandering waterfall stretches the length of its signature hole, No. 18, and like many of the courses, the finishing hole backs up to the clubhouse allowing diners to get a glimpse of the action.
The surrounding forest puts on a colorful fall display, and autumn is a popular time on the courses. While spring is still the busiest time of year, fall comes in as a close second. Mild weather gives golfers an extended season and courses are open all year.
Hot Springs Village wants to put the fun back into your golf game. In fact, ‘Come Join the Fun’ is one of the community’s slogans.
A variety of courses set the stage and multiple tee boxes offer golfers even more options to play at an enjoyable pace. Golfers are encouraged to ‘play it forward’ by selecting a tee set one forward than you would normally play. This not only speeds up the pace of play, but it also increases the enjoyment of the game.
Improving skill makes playing more satisfying. A community golf clinic kicks off the season so beginners can brush-up on their game, and golf professionals are available for one-on-one lessons. Driving ranges and practice greens are available at many of the courses allowing you to warm up before the game.
Leagues and tournaments keep the game interesting allowing players to meet new golfers, make friends and play a variety of games. The Village has both men and women leagues. With six choices available, you’re bound to find the right golf group for you.
While the Village is a golfer’s dream, there’s plenty of fun for the non-player, too. The DeSoto Family Recreation Area has playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts and a miniature golf course for family fun. Outdoor pools are also available from Memorial Day through Labor Day week end.
Swim, boat, fish or just relax at one of the many recreational lakes. Lake Balboa is the largest and has a full-service marina offering boat rentals, covered pavilion and grills. Lake DeSoto also has a marina with boat, canoe and paddle boat rentals. Lake Balboa, Lake DeSoto and Lake Cortez all have beaches.
There’s also 26 miles of natural trails. These tree-shaded pathways are great for an exhilarating run, leisurely walk or family bike ride. The Coronado Fitness Center is a full workout facility with weight and cardio equipment, three-lane walking track, indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, exercise classes, massage therapy and more. This isn’t your typical community gym.
You don’t have to go outside the gates for meals. Most golf courses have a clubhouse featuring a restaurant and lounge, and there are additional restaurants as well. Accommodations are plentiful. Rental agencies offer a range of vacation properties from townhomes to luxury homes or stay nearby in a local hotel.
