Five years of planning culminated Tuesday morning in an official ribbon cutting for the opening of FlyingTee, a 60-bay golf and entertainment center located at the Riverwalk Crossing shopping center in Jenks on the west bank of the Arkansas River.
John Vollbrecht, founder and CEO, said it was gratifying to reach this point. The center has had a soft opening for the past few weeks attracting good crowds that meant wait times for hitting bays in the evenings, but he expects a big boost now that the official opening date has arrived.
“Just to watch the diversity of demographics that have already come out to enjoy the facility has been amazing and gratifying,†Vollbrecht said. “The families, golfers, non-golfers, young people and old, it’s been great. As the word gets out that our restaurants compare favorably with any in Tulsa, the popularity will really take off.â€
James Vollbrecht, the technology director, said a huge surprise to the ownership group has been the popularity of playing the simulated courses such as Pebble Beach and other famous courses from around the world. He said the group plans to soon offer golfers the option of playing the course where that week’s stop on the PGA Tour is being held.
“It’s the only golf simulator experience you can have where you’re not hitting into a net,†James Vollbrecht said. “Golfers and even non-golfers have just been lining up to play the courses.â€
FlyingTee has three levels, each with a different menu, restaurant and bar experience, from a first floor sports bar to a rotisserie restaurant (Ironwood) on the second floor and a appetizers and shareables theme on the top floor Flite restaurant. A selection of beers from various local brewers are included among the bar offerings. There are outdoor seating areas, including a large bar and practice putting green on the first floor.
Hours are 9 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends. For more information, go to FlyingTee.com.
