Skiatook native J.R. Glover has accepted a position of Director of Golf at The Patriot in Owasso.
Glover, a 2004 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, was the head professional at The Golf Club of Oklahoma, a position he started Aug. 26 at after working his way up from outside help to assistant professional at the Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Fla.,
Glover’s final day at The Golf Club is Friday and he begins work at The Patriot on Jan. 27.
"We’re very excited about J.R. coming over," said Dan Rooney, one of the co-founders of The Patriot and founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation which holds The Patriot Cup each spring. "He’s a guy that has big dreams and passions and wants to be a golf professional at the highest level. He’s got a great knowledge base and his background at Bay Hill will serve him well here."
"It’s a newer facility with a lot of room to grow," Glover said of The Patriot."And working for a cause like the Folds of Honor is going to be great. I have some contacts from Bay Hill and hopefully will be able to assist in bringing some great names to the event."
At The Patriot, Glover replaces Chris Jarrett, who resigned in September to go into private business.
Rooney said The Patriot conducted a national search for Jarrett’s replacement before finding what it was looking for practically next door.
"We’re excited about J.R.’s character, his Oklahoma roots, the experience he brings, that he cut his teeth at Bay Hill. He just seems like the perfect guy to take the reins and we’re counting on him in a big way to take us to the next level," Rooney said.
