Goodin, Allen lead OCU Stars to Claud Jacobs title

VICTORIA, Texas – Caroline Goodin of Oklahoma City University claimed the Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational crown to spearhead the Stars to the team title Monday at The Club at Colony Creek.

Goodin, a junior from Oklahoma City, finished four strokes ahead of second-place finisher and teammate Emma Allen. OCU, ranked sixth in NAIA women’s golf, shot a 293-305-297–895 on the par-72, 5,856-yard course to finish 30 strokes ahead of 10th-ranked Texas Wesleyan.

“I’m very proud of the way the girls competed,” OCU head coach Marty McCauley. “They showed a lot of composure and discipline. I couldn’t be prouder of the result they accomplished this week.”

Wayland Baptist (Texas), ranked seventh, trailed Texas Wesleyan by three shots.

Goodin fired a 69-77-72–146 with nine birdies and a field-best 38 pars. Allen, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., shot a 73-76-73–222, while notching 34 pars and eight birdies.

Kailey Campbell’s 74-75-76–225 tied Marina Gallegos of Wayland Baptist for third place. Campbell tallied 36 pars and six birdies.

Abby Thompson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., followed in eighth-place with an 82-73-73–228 card and recorded one of the two eagles made throughout the 54-hole tournament.

Anna Mikish, a junior from Choctaw, Okla., placed 14th with a 77-80-76–233 card, while shooting 29 pars and seven birdies.

Katie-Lee Wilson and Raegan Barnes finished tied for 15th. Wilson, a junior from Owasso, Okla., carded a 78-77-80–235, while Barnes, a junior from Choctaw, Okla., shot a 77-83-75–235.

Barnes and Thompson played unattached. The day started with 67-degree temperatures and 13-mph winds. The temperature rose to 77 degrees by the end of play.

The Stars play in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic on Feb. 22-23 at the Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.
