Hall of Fame adjusts scholarship eligibility guidelines, extends application period

Effective immediately, after a review of its eligibility guidelines for scholarships, the Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame board has voted to widen its application pool by removing language that only students planning to attend an Oklahoma institution of higher learning could apply. Oklahoma residents planning to further their education at an institution of higher learning in other states may now apply as well.

Along with that change, the board is reopening the application period for the two $5,000 scholarships until June 7, 2018. All previous applicants will be considered as well as any new applications received in that interval.

Lew Erickson, chairman of the scholarship committee, said the change broadens the applicant pool and avoids conflict with an NCAA compliance rule that prevents student athletes in certain instances from accepting scholarships that have geographic or other restrictions.

The revised criteria and application forms are available at www.oklahomagolfhof.org. The scholarship committee considers character, academic record, leadership and an essay relating the applicant’s experience with golf.
