At least 11 players with Oklahoma ties are beginning play today in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Pinehurst. We also have the defending champion caddie, as Oklahoma State coach Alan Bratton is looping for Austin Eckroat. Bratton caddied for Viktor Hovland in 2018 on his way to the title at Pebble Beach.

Eckroat is one of five Cowboys in the field. The others are Brian Stark, Aman Gupta, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and incoming freshman Rayhan Thomas.

Oklahoma is represented by Quade Cummins, who like Eckroat would have a chance to make the 2019 Walker Cup team with a strong performance. Blaine Hale and 2016 runnerup Brad Dalke both postponed turning professional until after the Amateur and are in the field.

McCain Schellhardt of Edmond, who plays for the UMKC, qualified, as did Edmond’s Tyson Reeder, who plays at the University of Arkansas.

Also in the field is rising junior Andres Brictson of Oklahoma Christina, who won the Heartland Conference individual title in April.
