Hughett advances to second round of match play at U.S. Senior Amateur

Michael Hughett of Owasso tied for 42nd and moved into the match play portion of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship being contested at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.  

Hughett shot rounds of 75-75 in qualifying to finish at 7-over 149. Golfers had to shoot 9-under or better to make the 64-team field for match play. Hughett today defeated Ron Carter of Monticello, Ind., 3 and 1, in his first match. 

Hughett will face Peter Wegmanm of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in the second round at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. Wegmann was a quarterfinalist in this event in 2014. 

Hughett has won a record 17 championships in Oklahoma Golf Association play as a junior and senior.
