Thomas Johnson shot consecutive rounds of 71-71 at Shawnee Country Club to earn the chance to represent the PGA South Central Section in the National Junior PGA Championship, scheduled August 3-6, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.

He edged McCain Schellhardt of Edmond, who closed with a 66 after opening with a 78 to finish two strokes back in second place.

Johnson, who had to miss his senior appearance at the Class 6A high school championships at Karsten Creek along with several teammates at Norman North for disciplinary reasons, made amends with his strong play Monday and Tuesday.

Defending state amateur champion Yujeong Son of Norman shot a 1-over 143 with rounds of 73-69 to advance to the girls Junior PGA Championship. She was five shots better than Sydney Youngblood of Durant (71-77). Kate Goodwin of Tulsa was third at 158 (77-81). One boy and one girl advance from each of the 41 PGA Sections qualifiers.
