Kaminski leads OCU to Mid-South title

NEWTON, Kan. – Rupert Kaminski of Oklahoma City University won The Mid-South individual crown to spark the Stars to the team title Tuesday at Sand Creek Station Golf Club.

Kaminski, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, posted the one-shot victory in his second career collegiate start. OCU, ranked third in NAIA men’s golf, came from behind to pull in the two-shot win over fourth-rated Johnson & Wales (Fla.).

Kaminski’s 67-70-72–209 topped William Houlding of second-ranked William Woods (Mo.) on the par-72, 7,111-yard course. Oklahoma City carded a 288-286-283–857 to erase Johnson & Wales’ first-round one-shot edge.

OCU’s Garrison Mendoza, a junior from Clinton, Okla., posted a 74-71-75–220, while Scott Verplank, a senior from Edmond, Okla., had a 75-75-76–226.
