Kaminski leads Stars to victory in Hardscrabble Invitational

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Rupert Kaminski took the individual title to lead Oklahoma City University to the Arkansas-Fort Smith Hardscrabble Invitational team crown Tuesday at the Hardscrabble Country Club.



Kaminski, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, fired a 64-66-130 to capture his second individual championship this season. The Stars, ranked sixth in NAIA men’s golf, won their fourth tournament title this season.



OCU produced a 272-287-559 to best 23rd-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan by 26 strokes. Kaminski buried 13 birdies on the 36 holes of the tournament on the par-70, 6,783-yard course. Kaminski finished seven strokes ahead of Brady Richardson of Oklahoma Wesleyan.



The Stars’ Anthony Marchesani picked up all-tournament honors with a third-place showing. Marchesani, a senior from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, carded a 67-74-141 while knocking in five birdies and making par 25 times.



OCU’s Zac Oliver finished knotted for ninth place. Oliver, a senior from Checotah, Okla., compiled a 70-75-145 and seven birdies. Jett Johnson posted a 71-75-146 to be tied for 11th. Johnson, a senior from Norman, Okla., sank seven birdies for the Stars.



Matthew Cheung, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, had a 76-72-148 for OCU. Stars playing as individuals were Jamie Warman (74-78-152) and Brett Dixon (80-78-158).

The high temperature on the course was 69 degrees after starting the day at 51 degrees. The wind ranged from 7-14 mph with gusts up to 18 mph.



Oklahoma City seeks its sixth conference crown in seven years in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships at 8 a.m. Monday at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
