Kline helps UCO into second in Mid-America championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. (April 20) – Eric Kline’s opening-round 75 has him second in the individual standings and paced Central Oklahoma to second in the team race at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men’s Golf Championships here Monday.

The Bronchos finished with a 315 at the rugged 6,829-yard, par-72 Alvamar Golf Club (Member’s Course) that was buffeted by high winds all day, with just 14 of the 54 players in the field breaking 80.

Central Missouri has the lead in the 11-team tourney at 315, while UCO is seven shots up on third-place Washburn.  Lindenwood is fourth at 323 and Lincoln fifth at 325 heading into Tuesday’s second round.

Kline led the Bronchos with his 75, while Logan Gray shot 78, Russ Purser 80, Alexander Hughes 82 and Wesley Jackson 83.  Kline trails UCM’s Cy Moritz by one shot in the medalist race, with Gray tied for sixth.

Kline made the turn at three-over 39 and then bogeyed two of the first three holes on the back nine to drop to five-over before rebounding to play the final six holes two under.
