Kline leads UCO to national tournament berth

EUREKA, Mo. (May 7) – Eric Kline closed with a 2-under-par 70 to come in second in the individual race and lead Central Oklahoma to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional here Wednesday. 

The Kline-led Bronchos shot a final-round 301 and finished three trips around the par-72, 7,120-yard Fox Run Golf Club with an 899 total to earn a trip to the national tournament that will be held May 20-23 in Allendale, Mich.
 
Malone won the 20-team meet at 886, followed by Central Missouri (893), Saginaw Valley State (896), UCO and Missouri-St. Louis (902).  Those five teams will join 15 others in the national tourney.
 
The Bronchos also got 76s from Russ Purser and Joby Gray, while Matt Helms shot 79 and Logan Gray 82.
 
Kline ended with a 1-under 215 total to tie for second in the medalist standings, three shots behind winner Michael Colgate of Nebraska-Kearney.
 
The Ponca City sophomore, who started his round on No. 10, birdied Nos. 13 and 14 to quickly get to two under before giving both strokes back with back-to-back bogeys on 17 and 18 in making the turn at even-par 36.
 
Kline parred his first two holes on the back nine before again making consecutive birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 to get back to two under and stayed there by closing with five straight pars.
 
The Northeastern State men’s golf team finished 18th after Wednesday’s final round.
The RiverHawks, who were making their 14th appearance at the event in the last 15 years, carded a final-round score of 310 to finish at 64-over-par 928 (301-317-310).

Sophomore Brent Williamson had a chance late in his round to advance to the NCAA Championship final site as an individual, but he made two double bogeys in his last three holes to finish in a tie for 10th at 6-over 222 (73-73-76).

Junior Brad Hager used his first-career ace on the par-3 15th hole to vault himself into a tie for 53rd at 15-over 231 (73-82-76). He used a pitching wedge on the 155-yard shot. The ball hit just beyond the hole to the left before spinning back into the cup.

Freshman Tate Williamson tied for 82nd at 21-over 237 (78-82-77), fellow freshman Marc Johnson tied for 87th at 22-over 238 (77-80-81), and junior Josh Strimple tied for 104th at 32-over 248 (79-85-84).
