Laird holds slim lead over Hughett in OGA Mid-Amateur

Former University of Tulsa golfer Rob Laird shot a 2-under 70 for a one-shot lead over Michael Hughett of Owasso after the first round of the Oklahoma Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at Cedar Ridge Country Club Monday.

Hughett, who owns more OGA championships than any other competitor at 19, shot a 1-under 71. He is one shot ahead of former TU star and Cedar Ridge member Chris Noel, as well as Tyler Hunt of Tulsa and Luke Phillips of Edmond.

Two-time defending champion Austin Hannah of Jenks shot 75, as did Tripp Davis of Norman. Davis is the golf architect who did the redesign work on Cedar Ridge’s bunkers that was completed earlier this year.
