THACKERVILLE, OKLA. (Aug. 29, 2019) – It is golf at its farthest, loudest, most athletic and adrenaline-filled extreme. The longest hitters in the world have again convened in Oklahoma for the 44th annual World Long Drive Championship at the WinStar World Casino and Resort.
Originating in 1976, the World Long Drive Championship will culminate live and in primetime on Golf Channel under the lights to crown a champion in the Open, Women’s and Masters Divisions. The event begins today, Aug. 30 and concludes with live coverage on Golf Channel Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 from 7:30 – 10 p.m. CST.
WinStar Golf Club, on the grounds of WinStar World Casino and Resort, has served as host of the Championship since 2015.
Contestants generate ball speeds upwards of 220 mph while crushing drives of over 400 yards on the tour’s biggest stage. The reigning world champions from 2018 are Phillis Meti (Women’s Division), Maurice Allen (Open Division) and Eddie Fernandes (Masters Division).

Eight official World Long Drive qualifying events have taken place throughout North America in 2019 in the Open Division at locations including WinStar Golf Club. The host site of the Championship has kept things interesting, with a season-long fantasy World Long Drive contest for fans who have kept up with the World Long Drive season. The fan earning the most points in WinStar’s season-long cumulative contest will be given a VIP experience at the final two days of Championship competition.
The competitors in the 2019 World Long Drive Championship include the legends of the sport: two-time champion Tim Burke, five-time champion Sandra Carlborg, defending (and three-time) world champion Meti, along with other defending champions: Allen and Fernandes.
