Lumpkin, Price lead NSU women to fourth-place at St. Edwards Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – The Northeastern State women’s golf team moved up four positions to finish fourth at the St. Edward’s Invitational, which was held at the par-70, 5,802-yard Onion Creek Country Club.

The RiverHawks shot 310 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 59-over-par 619 (309-310).

Florida Tech took home top honors at 37-over 597 (293-304), while Indianapolis landed in second at 47-over 607 (299-308). Sonoma State was the only other team to finish ahead of NSU, and the Seawolves shot 51-over 611 (308-303).

Northeastern State also got a big in-region victory over rival Arkansas Tech, who finished eighth at 63-over 623 (308-315).

True freshman Kelsey Lumpkin led NSU with a top-6 effort. She shot 10-over 150 (74-76) to register her third top-10 finish of the season.

Junior Baylee Price shot 14-over 154 (80-74) to tie for 16th, while senior Charter Lawson landed at T-31 after firing an 18-over 158 (77-81). True freshmen Halie Wright (81-79) and Ebba Moberg (78-82) both tied for 41st at 20-over 160.

The RiverHawks will take a month off from competition before heading to Axtell, Nebraska March 25-26 for the UNK Spring Invitational.

Rogers State placed 10th as a team with Mica Eastin, Kina Boone and Raquel Trevino all placing in the top 20.

Eastin was tied for first going into the final round and shot a 9-over-par 79 to finish at 11-over-par 151 for eighth place. She totaled four birdies in the two rounds and was the best in the field on the par 5s at 2-under-par.

Boone also shot 79 after a 5-over-par 75 in her first round. She totaled a score of 14-over-par 154 to place 16th. Trevino managed a 74 to climb up the leadership to 19th. Stirling Phillips shot 85 and Elizabeth McCloskey 87.

The Hillcats are back on the course on March 7-8 for the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invitational in Edmond, Oklahoma at KickingBird Golf Course.
