McCracken, Tulsa lead C-USA Championship at Oak Tree

Edmond, Okla. – The Tulsa men’s golf team sits in first place at the Conference USA Championships after carding an 8-over par 288 in first round action. Hurricane senior Logan McCracken leads the individual race after turning in a score of 3-under par 67 at the East Course at Oak Tree Country Club.

After a weather delay, Tulsa took a two-stroke lead over second-place UAB (290) after the first 18 holes, while Charlotte is one spot back with a 291 score, followed by Middle Tennessee and Rice (293) rounding out the top-5 teams.

McCracken birdied his first four holes as he began the day on the 10th hole, before a bogey at the par-3 14th hole stopped his streak of birdie putts. He finished his first nine holes at 4-under par after another birdie on hole 18. McCracken was 5-under par heading into his last hole, but double-bogeyed the par-4 ninth hole.

Tulsa’s Matt Mabrey scored an even par 70, turning in five birdie putts and five bogeys, and enters Monday’s second round in a five-way tie for third place. Junior Colton Staggs finished the day in 14th place at 73.

Mark Mumford and Matthew Marquez finished the day tied for 44th place after turning in rounds of 78 on Sunday.

Second round action takes place on Monday as Tulsa tee’s off beginning at 8:45 a.m.
