McDonald leads Gateway Mortgage Group Tulsa Open at The Oaks

William McDonald of Oklahoma City shot a 3-under round of 68 to earn a one-stroke lead after the first round of the 54-hole Gateway Mortgage Group Tulsa Open on the American Junior Golf Association tour Monday at The Oaks Country Club in Tulsa.

McDonald leads Alfred Raja of Indonesia by a shot after he posted a 2-under 69, In a tie for third with even-par rounds of 71 are Jaxon Dowell of Edmond, Luis Gerardo Cantu Chapa of Mexico, Jared Strathe of Owasso, Logan Brooks of Tulsa and Peter Weng of China. James Roller of Jenks and Terrin Andreson of Montgomery, Texas, are another shot back at 1-over 72.

In the girls’ bracket, Yu Wen Lu of China shot 69 for a two-shot lead over Jennie Park of Carrolton, Texas, and Jenni Roller of Jenks. Yingzhi Zhu of Austin, Texas, is fourth with a 72, followed by a group at 74 that includes Raychel Nelke of Pocolo.

The tournament continues with the second round Wednesday morning. A short-game clinic by local PGA professionals Michael Boyd and Tracy Phillips will be held following play from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The final round is scheduled Thursday morning.

The Tulsa Open is a first-year event on the AJGA Tour. Spectators are welcome. Live scoring for both boys and girls can be found here.
