OKLAHOMA CITY – Savannah Moody from Oklahoma City University wrapped up a runner-up finish in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
Moody, Melissa Eldredge and Regan McQuaid provided Oklahoma City their best career finishes. The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA women’s golf, took third place as a team.
Moody, a senior from Aledo, Texas, turned in a 71-67-80–218, finishing five strokes behind individual winner Alex Schies of Texas Wesleyan. Moody knocked down three birdies Tuesday to collect 11 birdies among the 54 holes.
Oklahoma City shot 297-292-317–906 on the par-72, 6,010-yard course. Texas Wesleyan, ranked 11th, had the winning score of 298-285-304–887.
Melissa Eldredge put together a 68-73-79–220 for a third-place showing. Eldredge, a sophomore from Eufaula, Okla., had six birdies during the tournament.
Regan McQuaid of OCU carded a 79-75-78–232 to tie for 14th. McQuaid sank a birdie on the par-5, 488-yard 13th hole to finish with seven birdies for the tournament. Emma Allen contributed a 79-77-81–237. Allen, a senior from Broken Arrow, had six birdies.
OCU’s Clair Hill, a freshman from Gig Harbor, Wash., compiled an 84-78-80–242. Stars playing unattached were Loren Matrone (83-81-82–246), McKenzie McCoy (84-84-78–246) and Arianna Medina (82-82-82–246).
Conditions on the course started with temperatures in the 40s with no wind. The temperature rose to 71 degrees, and the wind picked up to 20 mph with 23 mph wind gusts.
The Stars will resume their season March 5-6 in the Battle at Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nev.
