NSU men fifth in Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Northeastern State men’s golf team nestled into fifth place after the opening day of the Rattler Invitational, which is being contested at the par-72, 7,121-yard The Golf Club of Texas.

 The RiverHawks opened with a round of 296 in the morning session before firing an even-par round of 286 in Monday’s afternoon 18 to land at 8-over-par 584.

Indian Hills Community College lapped the field on the first day and sits comfortably in first place at 15-under 561 (279-282). IHCC holds a 20-stroke lead over St. Edward’s (290-291), St. Mary’s (286-295) and Concordia (295-286), who are all tied for third at 5-over 581.

Junior Tate Williamson shot rounds of 70 and 69 to position him in solo third place at 3-under 139. He sits five back of the individual leader Jackson Bugdalski of IHCC, who shot 10-under 134 (66-68).

True freshman Garrett McDaniel is in a tie for 17th at 2-over 146 (73-73), while senior Brent Williamson is tied for 38th at 6-over 150 (75-75). Junior Marc Johnson landed in a tie for 45th at 8-over 152 (78-74), while true freshman Hunter Pennington sits T-55 at 10-over 154 (82-72). Tate Williamson and Pennington both recorded two eagles in the second round.

 The final round will be contested March 15.
