NSU men’s golf finishes 6th at Central Region Invitational

Hess lands in the top 15 after final-round 74

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team finished sixth at the Drury Inn Central Region Invitational, which was held on the par-71, 6,582-yard St. Joseph Country Club.
 
The RiverHawks carded a team score of 304 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 49-over-par 901 and slide up a spot in the standings. NSU leapfrogged Southwestern Oklahoma State (902) and stood four strokes shy of No. 17 Central Oklahoma (897).

Nebraska-Kearney won the event with a 27-over 879, while No. 8 Central Missouri placed second (887). Arkansas Tech (889) and Henderson State (891) rounded out the top four.
 
Sophomore Jackson Hess landed in a tie for 13th at 10-over 223 after shooting a team-best 74 in the final round. Freshman Marc Johnson carded a final-round 77 to finish in solo 26th at 226.
 
Freshman Tate Williamson shared the 29th position with a 15-over 228, junior Josh Strimple finished a stroke behind Williamson at T-32, and sophomore Brent Williamson finished T-70 at 237.
 
Overnight leader Matt Jennings stayed on top at 4-under 209. He shot 75 in the final round.
 
Northeastern State will compete Oct. 21-22 in the St. Mary’s Rattler Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
