NSU third in host event at Cherokee Hills, Price ties for first

CATOOSA, Okla. – The No. 22-ranked Northeastern State women’s golf team finished third in the home tournament, the 15th Annual NSU Women’s Golf Classic Tuesday.

The RiverHawks improved their team score by 17 strokes to end with a final round score of 305 and placed third with an overall score of 627. They battled through a persistent light rain that drizzled throughout the day.

Freshman Baylee Price shot the low round of the tournament with a final-round score of 1-under par 69. She bogeyed the last two holes to finish at 146 and end in a three-way tie for first place with Arkansas Tech’s Megan Jeffery and Ana-Laura Gomez of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Jeffery won the playoff with a birdie on the first hole, but all three individuals were crowned champion.

Also scoring for NSU was freshman Sofia Castiello who shot a 4-over par round 70 and concluded the tournament with 154 tying for seventh place. Junior Arizona Chin tied for 15th after carding a final round score of 81 and an overall score of 163. Freshman Gabbi Shelton tied for 18th and also shot an 81 for the ending round (164 overall).  Sophomore Kayla Schroeder shot an 82 and ended with a score of 170 improving her game by one stroke to finish T-31.

Redshirt freshman Katie Lemler ended with a final round score 82 and finished with 166 to place 26th individually.

Arkansas Tech won the tournament with an overall score of 609 followed by Southwestern Oklahoma State with a 619.

Northeastern State will be back in action on September 23-24 in Avondale, Ariz., for the Grand Canyon Invitational, which is held at the Coldwater Golf Club.
