NSU, UCO tie for second at Emerald Falls
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team finished second after Tuesday’s final round at the 2013 NSU Classic, which was held at the par-72, 6,943-yard Emerald Falls Golf Club.
The RiverHawks fired the second-lowest round of the day of 302 to finish at 40-over-par 904. Central Missouri carded the lowest round of the tournament in the final round at 295 to win the event by seven strokes at 33-over 897. This marks the second time the Mules claimed the championship (2009).
Central Oklahoma placed third at 913 after shooting 305 in the final round. Southeastern Oklahoma State also shot 305 to finish fourth at 916. Arkansas Tech shot 315 to slip to fifth at 918.
Michael Hearne of Southern Nazarene took home the singles title after finishing at 2-over 218. He shot a 1-under 71 in the final round.
NSU freshman Tate Williamson finished on the all-tournament team after tying for fifth. He shot 75 in the final round to finish at 7-over 223. Fellow freshman Marc Johnson carded a 76 Tuesday to finish one stroke behind Williamson in a tie for eighth.
Sophomore Brent Williamson shot 77 in the final round to finish at 12-over 228 and tied for 18th. Junior Josh Strimple fired a tournament-low 74 Tuesday to land in a tie for 20th at 13-over 229, and sophomore Michael Varner tied for 73rd at 248.
Junior Jonas Granel was playing as an individual and earned a T-10. He was the low individual after shooting 9-over 225. Junior Brad Hager posted a 13-over 229 and tied for 20th, while senior Jordan Perceful was tied for 35th at 17-over 233.
Northeastern State will return to action Oct. 7-8 in Warrensburg, Mo., at the UCM Heart of America Invitational. The tournament will be held on the UCM Golf Club.
