GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The No. 17-ranked Northeastern State women’s golf team finished runner-up at the Mustang Intercollegiate, which was held at the par-72, 5,900-yard Palm Valley Golf Club.

The 24-team field was loaded with 13 nationally-ranked clubs, including eight of the top 20-ranked teams in the country. Northeastern State took down six of the NCAA’s top 20 teams and was bested only by No. 8 Tarleton State.

A day after breaking the school record for lowest score in relation to par at even 288, the RiverHawks shot 14-over-par 302 in Saturday’s final round to finish at 14-over 590. The TexAnns won the event at 3-over 579 (285-294).

NSU narrowly posted upsets over No. 15 California Baptist (297-294) and No. 16 St. Mary’s (299-292), who both finished in a tie for third one stroke behind the RiverHawks at 15-over 591.

No. 11 Dallas Baptist landed in fifth place at 18-over 594 (293-301). Northeastern State also earned a victory over Central Region foe and No. 12-ranked Augustana, who finished in a tie for ninth at 33-over 609 (306-303).

Senior Charter Lawson was one stroke out of first place in the individual standings and finished in solo fifth at 1-under 143 (70-73). This was the first time in Lawson’s career that she shot under par for a tournament, and she also earned a top-5 effort for the second-straight week.

True freshman Kelsey Lumpkin tied for 11th at 3-over 147 (72-75), while both true freshman Ebba Moberg (73-77) and junior Baylee Price (73-77) were T-25 at 6-over 150. True freshman Halie Wright tied for 48th at 11-over 155 (77-78).

Northeastern State has one more event prior to postseason competition, and that will be the NCAA Division II Central Region Spring Preview April 11-12 at Rivercut Golf Club in Springfield, Missouri.
