NORTHAMPTON, England (Sept. 24, 2016) — Former Oklahoma Christian golf standout Alasdair Dalgliesh is a step closer to his dream of making the European Tour.
Dalgliesh tied for seventh at the Tour’s First Qualifying Stage Section B event, which ended Friday at Collingtree Park. On a 6,806-yard course designed by golf legend Johnny Miller, Dalgliesh shot rounds of 68, 74, 69 and 68 to close at 9-under-par 279.
The top 23 finishers (plus ties) in the 61-man field advanced to the Second Qualifying Stage, which will be held Nov. 4-7 at four different courses in Spain. About 310 players will be entered for that stage, with about 80 to reach to Final Qualifying Stage, which will be Nov. 12-17 at PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona, Spain. The top 25 finishers in the final stage will receive European Tour cards for 2017.
One of Dalgliesh’s former teammates at OC, Oscar Stark, advanced to the final qualifying stage in 2015. Stark currently plays on the European Challenge Tour, a step below the European Tour and similar to the Web.com Tour in the United States.
Dalgliesh, from West Sussex, England, played for OC from 2010 through 2014, winning three tournaments and earning All-America first-team honors twice — from the NAIA in spring 2012 and the National Christian College Athletic Association in fall 2012. As a senior in 2013-14, he was named to the All-Heartland Conference second-team list.
He tied for runner-up honors at the NCCAA Championship at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla., in October 2012, helping the Eagles win the most recent of their three national titles. His career 73.2 stroke average is tied for seventh on OC’s all-time list in that statistical category.
