NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma City University tops NAIA champion Coastal Georgia for the No. 1 spot in the NAIA Golf Coaches Association of America preseason poll.The Stars received one first-place vote and 217 points to surpass the Mariners by two points. Coastal Georgia received seven first-place votes and 215 points.
OCU returns all-Americans Anthony Marchesani, Matthew Cheung and Garrison Mendoza. Marchesani, a junior from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, was chosen as a first-team all-American last season. He ranked sixth in the NAIA in average score with 71.96.
Cheung, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, and Mendoza, a sophomore from Clinton, Okla., made the all-American third team. Cheung posted 73.79 strokes a round, while Mendoza produced a 73.85 stroke average.
Oklahoma City finished as NAIA runner-up in 2013-14. OCU has captured national championships in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013.
The Stars begin their season Sept. 8-9 in the U.C. Ferguson Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
