SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – Oklahoma women’s golf closed the fall portion of its schedule with a sixth-place finish at Battle at the Beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, while a struggling University of Tulsa team finished 17th.

The Sooners shot a final-round score of 288 (+4) on Sunday to finish with a 54-hole total of 872 (+20) at the par-71, 6,202-yard Golf Course Club Campestre San Jose. Auburn ran away with the team title by shooting an 845 (-7) and finishing 17 strokes ahead of second-place TCU.

“Overall, we saw some good things this week,” said OU assistant coach Ryan Sirman. “We have a talented group and the next three months will be important for us as we move into the offseason. This is a great time to address some areas of our game and come out improved for the spring season.”

Three Sooners finished in the top 20 of the individual standings, led by senior Julienne Soo in ninth place. The Australian shot a 2-under 69 to finish the tournament with a 215 (+2) and pick up her second straight top-10 showing.

Sophomore Kaitlin Milligan finished one stroke behind Soo (216, +3) to tie for 12th. The Norman native proved to be Oklahoma’s most consistent golfer during the fall slate, picking up her fourth straight top-12 finish (three top 10 performances).

Freshman Libby Winans continued to show promise in her young collegiate career, securing her third top-20 finish of the fall with a 217 (+4). Winans had begun the Battle at the Beach with a 6-over 77 on Friday, but bounced back with consecutive scores of 70 (-1) over the final two rounds.

Fellow freshman Mikhaela Fortuna captured 42nd place (224, +11) and sophomore Hannah Lee took 79th (234, +21).

Sophomore Sydney Youngblood, competing in the event as an individual, fired a 69 (-2) in Sunday’s round to finish in 24th (220, +7).

The Sooners now take a break from competition until the spring portion of their schedule begins at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Fla., on Feb. 18. Oklahoma’s spring schedule is highlighted by the Big 12 Championship in Broken Arrow, Okla., and hosting an NCAA Regional on the OU campus at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

Tulsa placed 17th at the Battle at the Beach with a 925 total score. The Hurricane shot a final round 296 on Sunday.

Freshman Lorena Tseng finished in 42nd place to pace the Hurricane with a score of 224 following her best round of the tournament with a 1-under par 70. Senior Johanna Samuelsson and freshman Shaelee Scarberry tied for 71st place with scores of 232. Sophomore Taylor Dobson finished in 83rd place at 237, while senior Olivia Jackson placed 89th with a score of 244.

The fall season has concluded for the Golden Hurricane. The spring season will get underway at the Texas State Invitational, February 11-12.
