Oklahomans battle to make cut in Western Amateur

Several of Oklahoma’s top amateurs are competing this week in the prestigious Western Amateur at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Ill.

The invitation only field of 156 players will be cut to the low 44 and ties following today’s second round. Those players will then play 36 holes of stroke play on Thursday, with the low 16 moving into a match play format on Friday and Saturday.

Leading the state contingent after the first round was former Oklahoma State player Sam Stevens of Wichita with a 6-under 65, followed by the University of Oklahoma’s Blaine Hale with a 5-under 66, OSU teammates Hayden Wood of Edmond with a 4-under 67 and Austin Eckroat of Edmond with a 3-under 68. Also competing are Logan McAllister of Oklahoma City (69), Brad Dalke of Norman (70), Mason Overstreet of Kingfisher (71) and Quade Cummins of Weatherford (72). McAllister, Dalke and Cummins play for the University of Oklahoma and Overstreet for the University of Arkansas.
