GLEN ROSE, Texas (Sept. 9) – Susana Oliveras fired an even-par 72 to lead Central Oklahoma on the first day of the season-opening Tarleton State Invitational Monday.
The Bronchos are tied for eighth in the 13-team field after carding a 304 at the 6,068-yard, par-72 Apache Links Course at Squaw Valley Golf Club. Dallas Baptist leads the way at 289, with Midwestern State and Cameron tied for second at 292. Megan Brown of Cordell shot even-par 72 to lead Midwestern State and is tied for fifth individually.
Final-round action gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“We had some bad holes that hurt us,” head coach Michael Bond said. “Susana was steady all day and did a great job, especially for a freshman playing in her first tournament. Hopefully we can come back tomorrow and make a move up the leader board.”
Oliveras — a rookie from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – made 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys in her even-par round. She’s tied for fifth in the individual standings, three shots behind leader Iona Roska of Cameron.
Roberts had four birdies in her opening-round, while O’Dell carded 11 pars.
