ORU Men’s Golf Locked in Tight Battle at Bill Ross Intercollegiate

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  – Six of the 12 teams in the field are within eight shots of the lead and the Oral Roberts men’s golf team is one that is within striking distance finishing the first 36 holes in sixth place at 593 (293-300). Wichita State posted an outstanding first round to grab the overall team lead at 585 (287-298).

ORU nearly rallied late in the second round and was second in the standings before the dust settled and the Golden Eagles found themselves just back of Missouri State (590).

News & Notes
– One of three Summit League teams in the field, the Golden Eagles edged out South Dakota State (596) for top billing on day one.
– Spencer Sheets earned an eagle on the par-4 14th hole, while Will Starkey eagled the par-5 17th.
– With a first round 70, Torgerson had one of the best rounds of the day. Gonzaga’s Ryan Gaske shot a tournament-best 68, while a handful of golfers shot a round of 69. 

Up Next
ORU will be paired UMKC and Missouri State for the third and final round, which will begin just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
