ORU, Tulsa struggle in Little Rock First Tee Classic

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Oral Roberts men’s golf team finished the Little Rock/First Tee Classic with a 54-hole score of 927 (308-307-312) to finish 13th overall at the event. Lipscomb took home the team championship at 884 (300-289-295).  Tulsa trailed the field in 15th place.



Will Starkey tied with Cody Burrows to lead ORU at 228. It is the sixth time in seven tournaments in which Burrows has led or tied for the team lead. Starkey was the top finisher for the first time in his career.



Starkey had the lone eagle on the day for ORU, holing out in three on the 525-yard seventh. It was one of just five eagles in the tournament.



Tulsa shot a final round 318 for a 54-hole total of 943 at the par-72 Chenal Country Club.

 

Freshman Jack Knoesel finished the tournament in 22nd place with a total score of 228 after a final round 76, while Matthew Marquez shot a final round 79 and completed the tournament with a score of 236. Francisco Yanez placed 65th with a score of 238, while Sam Humphreys’ score of 241 was good for 73rd place. Preston Crawford finished in 84th place with a 260 total.

 

Lipscomb University captured the team title with a score of 884, 14 strokes better than second-place Tennessee-Martin. UT-Martin’s Hunter Richardson won medalist honors by winning a playoff over Lipscomb’s Eric Ansett after the two tied for first-place with scores of one-under par 215.

 

Tulsa will be in action next at The Maxwell Invitational, April 16-17, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
