LITTLE ROCK, Ark. â€“ The Oral Roberts and Tulsa men’s golf teams are on the tail end of a tight battle at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic, which teed off with the first two rounds Monday. ORU shot 615 (608-607) in the first round to finish the day in 14th, but is less than 10 shots from the top eight.
ORU’s top three golfers are all within three shots of each other, but separated by 19 spots in the standings. Lipscomb is leading the tournament at 589 (300-289), while Central Arkansas is second at 595 (301-294). The 307 and 308 were the highest two rounds of the year for ORU.
Tulsa, after learning its program would be disbanded earlier in the week, is in 15th place after rounds of 313 and 312 for a 54-hole total of 625 at the par-72 Chenal Country Club.
Freshman Jack Knoesel ended the day in 36th place with rounds of 73-79 for a 152 score, while Matthew Marquez enters final round action in 62nd place with a score of 157. Francisco Yanez and Sam Humphreys were just one stroke behind Marquez with scores of 158 and tied for 67th place. Preston Crawford is in 84th place with a 177 total
Lipscomb University led after the first day with a score of 589, while Tennessee-Martin’s Hunter Richardson led the individual field after identical rounds of 71 on Monday for a 2-under par 142 total.
